Let’s be real: nobody wants to spend hours in the kitchen on a Wednesday night, measuring out a million ingredients like some sort of MasterChef contestant. That’s where these 5-ingredient sticky chicken thighs come in.

Close-up of caramelised sticky chicken thighs coated in a glossy sauce, paired with golden roasted sweet potatoes and garnished with fresh herbs.

They’re sweet, savoury, and packed with 29g of protein per serving, making them perfect for those trying to hit their macros without eating plain chicken breast for the fifth day in a row.

Plus, they take just 20 minutes to cook, which is about the same time it takes to scroll aimlessly through your phone deciding what to have for dinner.

The magic happens with honey and balsamic vinegar, which caramelise into a glossy, sticky glaze that clings to the chicken like a needy ex.

Pair it with some rice, roasted veg, or just eat it straight out of the pan like an absolute legend. No judgment here.

What Are Sticky Chicken Thighs?

A serving of sticky chicken thighs drizzled with sauce, accompanied by roasted sweet potato wedges and fresh herbs, with a vintage fork and knife placed beside the plate.

Sticky chicken thighs are juicy, pan-fried chicken fillets coated in a sweet and tangy glaze made with honey and balsamic vinegar. The result? A flavour-packed dish that’s slightly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and sticky in all the right ways.

This recipe is ridiculously easy, requiring just five ingredients (six if you count salt and pepper, but let’s not get technical). The key is in the glaze – a mix of balsamic vinegar and honey that thickens as it cooks, creating that irresistible sticky finish.

Perfect for a quick weeknight meal, a meal prep superstar, or just something to make you feel like you’ve got your life together.

The 5 Key Ingredients

Chicken thigh fillets. The king of flavour. More succulent than chicken breast, and way harder to overcook. Juicy, tender, and totally worth it.

Garlic. Flavour bomb. The more garlic, the better (unless you have a date).

Shallots (or  red onion). Adds a touch of sweetness and depth. Also makes you feel fancy.

Balsamic vinegar. The secret weapon. Brings a rich, tangy depth that makes you look like you know what you’re doing.

Honey. Sticky, sweet, and essential for that glossy glaze. Nature’s caramel.

These 5-ingredient sticky chicken thighs are sweet, savoury, and ridiculously easy to make. Juicy, caramelised, and ready in just 20 minutes!

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 600 g chicken thigh fillets
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil (this doesn't count as one of the 5 ingredients 🤣)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 shallots (or 1 red onion), finely chopped
  • 30 ml balsamic vinegar
  • 30 ml honey

Instructions

Heat a pan to medium. Not too hot – we want golden brown, not burnt offerings.

Season your chicken thighs with salt and pepper, because flavour is life.

Fry them up! Add the olive oil to the pan, then the chicken. Cook until browned and cooked through (about 12-15 minutes). Don’t poke them too much – let them do their thing.

Make it fragrant. Push the chicken to one side and add garlic and shallots. Let them sizzle for a minute or two until your kitchen smells amazing.

The magic happens. Pour in the balsamic vinegar and honey. Stir everything together so that the chicken is fully coated in sticky goodness.

Serve immediately with rice, potatoes, or straight from the pan with a fork. We won’t judge.

FAQ – Everything You Didn’t Know You Needed to Ask About Sticky Chicken Thighs

A beautifully presented meal of glazed chicken thighs and roasted sweet potatoes, styled with a beige linen napkin and a side of fresh salad in the background.

Can I use chicken breast instead of thighs?

You can, but why would you? Thighs are juicier and way harder to mess up. If you insist, just don’t overcook them.

What can I serve with sticky chicken thighs?

Rice, roasted veggies, mashed potatoes, or even a simple side salad. Basically, whatever you fancy.

Can I make sticky chicken thighs in the oven?

Absolutely! Sear them in a pan first, then bake at 200°C (180°C fan) for 10 minutes with the glaze. Less effort, same sticky goodness.

Can I meal prep sticky chicken thighs?

Yep! These reheat beautifully and stay juicy. Just keep the sauce separate until you reheat to avoid soggy sadness.

Is this recipe healthy?

With 29g of protein and only 305 calories per serving, it’s a pretty solid choice. Tastes like a cheat meal, but isn’t. Win-win.

Can I add extra spices?

Of course! A pinch of chilli flakes or smoked paprika works wonders if you want a little extra kick.

How do I stop my chicken from sticking to the pan?

Make sure the pan is properly heated before adding the chicken, and don’t move it around too much. A non-stick pan or cast iron skillet will also help.

Can I double the sauce?

100% yes. More sticky glaze = more happiness.
