Salmon Fillets. The star of the show — high in protein, rich in omega-3s, and a guaranteed flavour win. Skin-on for that perfect crisp.
Garlic. Adds instant depth and that unmistakable “I am a competent adult who cooks” aroma.
Ginger. Fresh, fiery, and brightens the whole sauce with a gentle kick.
Sweet Chilli Sauce. The sweet-spicy base that makes the glaze glossy and addictive.
Soy Sauce. Brings salty umami goodness and balances the sweetness.
Lime Juice. Zingy freshness that lifts the whole dish — especially good if you’re eating this on a rainy Tuesday.
Spring Onion. A final fresh pop of colour and crunch.
Keeping Sweet Chilli Salmon Fresh For Later
To Store
Once fully cooled, store the salmon in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
To Reheat
Reheat gently in a pan over low heat with a splash of water to keep the glaze silky. Microwave works too — just don’t blast it or you’ll end up with salmon that squeaks.
To Freeze
Freeze cooled salmon fillets individually, wrapped tightly, for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight before reheating.
Serving Suggestions
Jasmine or basmati rice
Stir-fried veg
Noodles
Cucumber salad
Tenderstem broccoli
A wedge of lime for extra zing
Variations & Tips
Add extra protein by serving with edamame, tofu cubes, or egg-fried rice.
Swap salmon for cod, haddock, or trout if that’s what you’ve got.
Add chilli flakes for extra heat or reduce chilli sauce for kids.
Use low-sodium soy sauce if you prefer a lighter salt profile.
For ultra-crispy skin, pat the salmon fully dry before cooking.
FAQs About Sweet Chilli Salmon
Can I use frozen salmon?
Absolutely. Just defrost it properly first or you’ll end up with a watery mess and a grumpy frying pan.
Is Sweet Chilli Salmon spicy?
Mildly! The sweet chilli sauce has a gentle kick, but it’s more sweet than heat. Great for spice wimps and flavour fiends alike.
Can I make Sweet Chilli Salmon ahead of time?
Yep – it reheats like a dream. Just don’t overcook it the first time or it might go a bit dry when reheated.
What can I serve with Sweet Chilli Salmon?
Rice, noodles, stir-fried veg – whatever you fancy. Even a crispy salad if you’re feeling virtuous.
Can I use another type of fish?
Totally. Cod, haddock, trout – as long as it holds together in the pan, you’re golden.
