Slow Cooker Moroccan Lamb Tagine Main Ingredients
Lamb (diced). The protein powerhouse of the dish. Slow cooking transforms it into tender, flavour-soaked goodness.
Onion. Adds natural sweetness and forms the aromatic backbone of the sauce.
Garlic. A savoury, aromatic essential that deepens the flavour of the whole tagine.
Ginger. Brightens everything up with a little heat and zing.
Cumin. Warm, earthy, and unmistakably Moroccan—an absolute must.
Ground coriander. Gives a citrusy lift that balances the richness of the lamb.
Cinnamon. Just a pinch gives that classic Moroccan sweetness and warmth.
Paprika. Adds colour, quiet smokiness, and extra depth.
Dried apricots. Sweet, soft, and perfect against the richness of the lamb.
Dates. Bring caramel sweetness that melts into the sauce.
Chickpeas. Extra protein, extra fibre, extra satisfaction. They also help thicken the sauce naturally.
Honey. Rounds off the spices with a gentle sweetness.
Keeping Slow Cooker Moroccan Lamb Tagine Fresh For Later
To store
Transfer leftovers into airtight tubs and refrigerate for up to 3 days. The flavours intensify overnight — always a win.
To reheat
Warm gently on the hob over low heat, adding a splash of water if needed. Microwave works too — about 2–3 minutes, stirring halfway.
To freeze
Cool completely, portion into containers, and freeze for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight in the fridge before reheating.
Serving suggestions
Serve over fluffy couscous, basmati rice, or mashed sweet potato. Add toasted almonds and fresh coriander on top for crunch and freshness.
Variations & Tips
Swap lamb for lean beef or turkey thigh for a different (but still high-protein) twist.
Add an extra tin of chickpeas for a protein boost on a budget.
For more heat, stir through harissa or chilli flakes before serving.
Deglaze the frying pan with a splash of stock to capture every bit of flavour before adding it to the slow cooker.
Add a spoon of 0% Greek yoghurt on top for extra creaminess and protein.
Slow Cooker Lamb Tagine FAQs
Can I use a different cut of lamb?
Yes — lamb shoulder, leg, or neck all work brilliantly. They’re higher in connective tissue, which breaks down into tenderness during slow cooking.
Is this recipe freezer-friendly?
Absolutely. It freezes beautifully, so make a double batch and thank yourself later.
Can I make this even higher in protein?
Add more lamb, pop in a second tin of chickpeas, or serve with high-protein sides like Greek yoghurt or quinoa.
Is it spicy?
Not really — it’s warm and aromatic rather than hot. Add chilli flakes if you prefer more heat.
