Fat Loss

Top fat loss myths:

How can I lose fat?

Skipping meals helps you lose weight. MYTH! Why - your body will compensate by over-eating at your next meal, you will feel tired and your body will turn to other energy sources like muscle.
Doing 100s of sit-ups will lose fat around your midsection. MYTH! Why - you cannot 'spot' reduction. This means that working your abs will not burn fat from your abs and doing oodles of triceps work will not remove those bingo wings.
Eating fat will always make you fat. MYTH! Eating healthy fats like those found in nuts will actually help you burn fat.
Doing weights is only for people who want to get muscles. MYTH! Research shows that exercising with weights will burn more calories after exercise than cardio alone.

Nutrition

Eat more real food. Think of the acronym JERF – Just Eat Real Food. Where is your food from? If it swims in the sea, flies in the sky, runs, or grows in a field then normally it is a good food choice. Nuts, fruit, fish, meat and vegetables are all good.

Eat a little more protein. Try eating a little more meat than you do at the moment. Meat is the main source of protein which is used by the body to grow and repair. Protein also helps keep you fuller for longer than carbohydrate and fat rich foods.

Eat breakfast. Although you may have heard that is important to eat breakfast to “boost your metabolism”, this is just not true. However, you will have been fasting for 6-8 hours so chances are you will be hungry. In terms of feelings of satiety then it is wise to include a protein rich meal for breakfast to set you up for the day.

Workout

If you are trying to lose fat then it is essential you have a good workout plan. A good fat loss plan will involve some cardio (running, walking, swimming etc) and a weights routine. Yes, you should do some weights.

"I don’t want to get lots of muscle....". We hear this all the time. Doing some resistance exercises with weights burns calories even after exercise - the result = fat loss. See workout plans for more.

Supplement well

When you are trying to get lean and lose fat then there are several supplements when, combined with a good diet and workout plan, can considerably improve your fat loss efforts. See supplements for more.
